profile

Xia Rondeau is a interdisciplinary artist from China via Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Her work explores the intersection of gender/sexuality, adoption, and social change. Using an array of art forms, she creates large installations to immerse viewers in her lived experiences as a gay, masculine-of-center woman of color. Xia has recently turned her attention towards 3D art and animation to further this exploration.

She is currently a certificate candidate studying Virtual and Augmented Reality Production through Columbia Chicago Online. As with installation art, she sees the power behind immersive media to generate connection and empathy between viewers and creators, and vise-versa.

Her passion for social change, along with her background in both media and fine arts, has lead to a fascination with Virtual/Augmented (immersive media) technologies and their potentials in community settings.

Xia is the Youth Media Coordinator at Cambridge Community Television where she works with diverse groups of teens and teaches them media production. She recently adopted Virtual Reality as a core subject for the program and intends to add installation art and Augmented Reality in the near future. Xia has been involved with CCTV since she was 14 years old and considers it her second home.
