"#NeverAgain" (2018)
as a regular-shmegular American it can be hard to imagine how, as an individual, we can make a difference. as an artist, i try to make an impact by dedicating my work and art to causes greater than any one of us, that impact each and every one of us. i believe there are ways to engage with social change in our daily lives--whether it's through creating and sharing art, or an article, or doing something as small as literally just holding the door open for a stranger because it's just fucking nice to do things like that for others.
i believe it's the small things that make the big impacts.
The goal of "#NeverAgain" (2018) was to create an image that spoke to gun violence in America as a whole, using imagery specific to recent events.
From gang violence, to police brutality, to mass shootings, guns are a huge problem. Inspired by the anti-war posters from the Vietnam Era, this piece is meant to reflect America's desire to put peace and love over violence and hate. Its aesthetics are influenced by that of the '60s.
The gun from which the daisies are blooming is an AR-15, the firearm used in Sandy Hook, Pulse Nightclub, First Baptist Church, Route 91 Music Festival, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Keeping it simple, the message is: Never again will we allow for the senseless murder of children, teens, adults--humans.
It's time for policy and change and peace. In our schools, in our communities, in our country.
